San Diego City Council Casts a Unanimous 9-0 Vote of Approval
Poway, CA, January 15, 2003-On the morning of Tuesday, January 14, 2003, the San Diego City Council voted unanimously to approve the proposed Toby Wells YMCA project in Kearny Mesa. The Grand Opening of this approximately 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility is expected early next year.
The Toby Wells Foundation has committed to providing the $4 million in funding for the facility, which Lynn Wells, President of the Foundation states, “Will not only serve as a permanent tribute to a very deserving young man who passed much before his time, but also serve as a valuable community resource”. The project team has enlisted the services of a specialist to ensure extensive adaptations for disabled persons as well.
In addition to this project, the Toby Wells Foundation encourages and supports programs that provide a quality-of-life difference for people and animals. The Toby Wells Foundation was formed in January 2001 as a means to make a meaningful difference in honor of Toby Wells. Wells 28, a third generation San Diegan and avid animal advocate, passed away in May 2000. Wells’ family and closest friends came together to develop the Toby Wells Foundation.
Today, the Toby Wells Foundation is focused on building a brighter future for youth, persons with disabilities and animals by providing substantial financial and fundraising assistance. The Toby Wells Foundation has helped in obtaining contributions exceeding $5 million to worthy organizations to date.
