hardship to provide homes for hungry horses

local veterinarian requesting help for a local individual affected by economic hardship.

years and until recently cared diligently for her equines. Unfortunately, the situation
worsened when she was affected by a recent lay-off This San Diego resident currently
has 16 horses and need an immediate home for the majority.
Volunteers from Blue Apple Ranch, a new non-profit division of Toby Wells
Foundation, worked directly with veterinary partners to provide assessments, on site care,
delivered medical supplies and feed, while offering a forever home for three of 16
equines.
In addition to assisting with this community intervention, Blue Apple Ranch
encourages and supports programs that provide a quality-of-life difference for people and
animals. The Blue Apple Ranch formed in October, 2009, is focused on enriching lives
through the rescue, rehabilitation, and compassionate care of at-risk equines while

alike.

animal care agencies, members of the community and other non-profit organizations to
provide permanent homes to over 75 San Diego horses and is a founding member of the
newly founded San Diego Equine Safety Net Coalition, a professional group of local
equine rescue organizations, veterinary practitioners and members of the community
focused on building a brighter future for San Diego's horses, funded with a generous
grant from ASPCA from the estate of the late San Diego animal advocate, Edith Hakes.
